Why were UGC (Content ID) videos deactivated for my album?

User-generated content, or UGC, is defined as any content created by the users of certain platforms such as TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram. On these platforms, users double as content creators, and music is often used in content creation.

OFFstep’s system disables the identification of UGC when it can’t find a distinctive sound to distinguish the track from. The use of additional audio such as nature sounds, lo-fi/downtempo beats, and samples often causes this. This process is required by video streaming platforms for us to be able to upload songs while also protecting you from possible claims, conflicts, and strikes.

When a release is approved for distribution to all stores, except UGC platforms, the album won’t initially generate copies on YouTube’s Content ID system. Each week, our team checks all the releases that have reached a significant number of streams and enables UGC tracking where applicable.  That being said, we also follow protocols to avoid conflicts and false claims; if claiming a track might cause a dispute, we’ll default to leaving it unclaimed.
