I’ve received an authorization document request, what should I do?
There’s no need to worry! Here are some clarifications:
First, it’s important to remember that OFFstep adheres to Copyright Law to ensure that the rights of artists and composers are properly protected.
Therefore, an artist’s work is protected by copyright, and authorization to use this work can only be granted by its right holder.
If you’ve received an authorization request for one of your compositions:
You will need to contact the original composer or their publishing company to request the right to re-record it. This is the only way OFFstep can approve the release.
While U.S. law allows artists to re-record any work, OFFstep is a global distributor and must comply with the copyright regulations of countries that have restricted re-recordings of certain works. This may limit the worldwide distribution of your content.
When reaching out to the author or publishing company, please include the release metadata with your authorization request.
Typically, you should provide the following information:
- Track title
- The name of the original authors/composers
- ISRC code of the recording
- Artist’s name
- Producer’s name
If the author or publishing company requires any additional details, they will request them directly from you.
