Can I distribute songs that are in the public domain?
You can distribute songs that are in the public domain. Keep in mind that you’ll have to register the names of the original composers correctly. If you don’t know the name of the composers of these songs, you can use “Public Domain” as the Songwriter.
Note: “Public Domain” can only be used if the original songwriter is genuinely unknown. If the authors of re-recorded songs can be found in a database (even if the composition/music is public domain), we won’t accept “public domain” as the author/writer. In this case, your album will be unpublished, and you’ll need to update the information for re-review. Please ensure the authors/writers are truly unknown in these cases.
